A Home From Home

There is no better place for sleeping than in one's own bed. Therefore it is advised for most travellers to stay where they are.

Our guesthouse, which came into being from the "Seamen's Mission," is not the usual kind of hotel. Comprising only six rooms in an old canal house, it is almost like a large apartment dwelling. It includes a day room with sitting area and a galley (no stove) for quick self-service.

Employees quickly get to know the guests and answer questions and requests with pleasure.

  Availability rooms

Until 28.12.2018 we are unable not offer any
  overnight stay in the guesthouse.
  We are sorry about this
Bookings for 2019 are possible from the beginning of
  December 2018 only.

news thiedmann

Arrived! Congratulations!

Michael Thiedmann was born in Lichtenfels and grew up on the Upper Main. After his confirmation, Thiedmann spent ten years in the evangelical work with children and young people. This gave rise to the desire to become a pastor. At first his way to Amsterdam led him to volunteer at the German Seamen's Mission. He then studied religious education and church education in Nuremberg. After two years he studied theology in Berlin, Munich and Neuendettelsau.

A new face in the guest house team newsnews freiwilliger 18 19

Every year in September our team changes. Then a new volunteer starts his ministry - to return to Germany after 12 months of many new experiences and begin his studies. We are grateful that every year a young person is willing to cooperate with us.

Marvin-Noah Wilkes has just finished his first weeks with us. He will be present at the reception of the guesthouse as well as on board the ships.

Floral greetings on board

What can a single flower effect in a man? Much, as we have observed once again. As last year, before Easter, we brought a touch of the spring on board of the oil tankers. The sailors, no matter what nation, rejoiced every time. A kind of color between all the gray, steel walls, placed directly next to the TV, in the cargo control room or on the window sill.

Happy people alone because of a small flower in a pot. And that is why we decided to bring the spring on board next year again

Donations Christmas Gifts 2017wao 2 2017

They rejoiced - many hundreds of seamen. They expected our visits in the days before Christmas. It's quite normal for sailors to have someone from a seaman's mission to stop by. Nevertheless, we were able to surprise them with a present. A greeting from land on board: a prepaid sim card that allows you to use the Internet or make phone calls. Messenger services are being used more and more like on land. That's how sailor families hear and see each other at Christmas.

We would like to thank all the many donors who made it possible for us to give away 524 Sim cards. The Amsterdam station distributed 620 gifts.
